Vintage Colonge: Eternity
icon

Do you remember Eternity? Now, this is a really, really, really old cologne! Actually, it came out in 1988, and is made by Calvin Klein. I think this smells so good. Depending on where you're at geographically, it can be very difficult to get in stores. However, that's no problem, because you can get it here. Great vintage cologne to wear for the summer.

12 Issues: Spiderman Mag

I used to LOVE comic books! In fact, I still do. A lot has changed since I was heavily in to comics, from the comic's printed art, to all the exciting great movies that continue to come out under both Marvel and DC comics. Comics are Unique in that you can enjoy the latest and greatest stories, while getting your nostalgic fix for very old superhero characters that go as far back as the 50s. Check out and subscribe to the new Spider-Man magazine, and get the latest news that is happening in Spider-Man's world here.

12 Issues Of X-Men Mag
icon

Out of all the comics, X-men are my most favorite. Maybe it's because in many ways I can relate to them. Struggling to navigate in a world that hates them. The only thing I can't relate to is having mutant powers (I wish LOLOLOL)! One thing is very clear of not just X-men, but almost all comic book characters, is that the male bodies have become much more defined, and the women are more voluptuous. Not sure if this is the result of mutant evolution, or a subconscious effort to sell comics. Whatever the reason, it's working! In this 12 month issue, or X-Men continues the fight for respect for all mutants, equality, and basic rights to exist. Learn more about this amazing magazine here.

Free Streaming: Spotify
I'll be honest, Spotify isn't my first choice to put on my list of recommendations. However, Spotify offers free accounts that allows you to stream unlimited music legally! Not the best software in terms of functionality, but the service is free to use, and Spotify pays the artists their royalties.

I'll be honest, Spotify wasn't my first choice to put on my list of recommendations. However, Spotify offers totally FREE accounts that allows you to access unlimited music LEGALLY! Not the best software in terms of functionality, but the service is free for us to use, and Spotify pays the artists their royalties (which true fans of music should seriously think about). The desktop software is fully functional; there is a web feature available. However, I recommend downloading the desktop app instead, simply because it's more stable. Mobile software has limited access; you can only play music in random mode (in other words there are no on-demand features for free users). Limited radio skips per day. Limited playlists. Spotify does have an online community forum, but it appears to be more for reporting bugs than sharing music. The service itself allows you to follow Facebook friends, etc, but, that's about it. Spotify is not robust. It's an application that just exist, and don't expect too many software improvements in the future; unless of course they get more paid subscribers or sponsors; but, I don't see that happening anytime soon either.

Free Streaming: YouTube
I think it's safe to say that YouTube is the most popular, and the most used FREE streaming service to date. As I've shared before, I've suggested that people minimize their use of, or to avoid using YouTube as a main source of music entertainment (because of concerns that many old school artists' music are not being monetized by the music labels as a result of how YouTube is setup). However, I've been reading more and more articles about YouTube's royalty negotiations. This is a good news. Again, it doesn't resolve all of my questions both as a fan and a responsible blogger. But it does show that changes are being made, and YouTube can literally become like a free video streaming service like Spotify, and pay artist for YouTube Videos. This is wonderful, because pretty soon it won't matter what service you use, because a significant portion of the streaming services will be legally FREE to use (with ads). However, when this happens, I do hope that people don't get stuck only using YouTube, and be willing to experience the other great services out here. I don't think there is a person on the planet who hasn't experienced YouTube, I don't think it makes sense to explain any further. LOL :-*

I think it's safe to say that YouTube is the most popular, and the most used FREE streaming service to date. As I've shared before, I've suggested that people minimize their use of, or to avoid using YouTube as a main source of music entertainment (because of concerns that many old school artists' music are not being monetized by their labels as a result of how YouTube is setup). But you know, I've been researching this for years, and I think I'm realizing what could be happening. Since Google is an online music retailer, it is possible that the record labels have worked out a deal that YouTube aka Google's videos are free license (some sort of packaged deal)? This would explain music videos with no ads. I also thought of Shazam too, which also uses YouTube. Because these licenses are usually top secret and withheld from the public, we'll never really know (I don't think). But rest assured, we know for a fact that Spotify, Napster, and all the other major streaming services, and Internet radio are paying royalties on all their streaming. Visit YouTube.com

Free Streaming: Crackle
Crackle has got to be (in my opinion), one of the best totally free movie streaming services out here! They have really really good "Original Content," and good movies. They improved video quality tremendously. The only thing I should tell you guys is that, so many people use Crackle that sometimes it gets really choppy. The only thing that really helps is a Roku Box 4, or a Amazon Fire Box, that has a Quad Core processor, and lots of memory to reduce the annoyance of buffering. Check it out on your video device, or go to Crackle online, by clicking on the graphic above. It's totally FREE!

They have really really good "Original Content," and good movies (although, they've been kind of slacking lately with putting out new original content, such as "Powers"). They also have losts of classic shows like "Who's The Boss," "Alf," and "What's Happening." Check it out on your video device, or go to Crackle online, by clicking on the graphic above. It's totally FREE! It's legal! and the ads pays the actors! Visit Crackle

Free Streaming: PBS

PBS.org has a lot of free programming available to watch on their website. Also available for your ROKU device. They have some of the best documentaries available. From our vets, to the history of NYC, to historical arts and theater. Channel 13 & 21 really works hard to bring to you strong educational content. Visit PBS

Free Streaming: Local Lib

Do you have a library card? Not too many people realize that ANY major public library within ANY of the 50 states allows you to digitally download/borrow content through their website. The licenses are the same as borrowing physical books and media. Each state maybe different. Once the license expires, you'd be denied access. The license can easily be renewed if there are available licenses for previously borrowed item. Please note that downloadable content can only be possible if the library card matches the state location of your library's website. So in other words, to borrow the New York Public Library's content, YOU MUST have a NY library card. Visit NYPL

Free Streaming: Popcorn
Popcorn Flix usually isn't my go to site, but they do have a good mixture of both low budget and classic block buster hits. It pretty much works in the same way that Tubi TV, and Crackle does. You'll find movies such as "The Decent (2005)," "Brotherhood Of Justice (1986)" and "The Toxic Avenger (1984)." All FREE to watch, and their service is also available on Roku.

You'll find movies such as "The Decent (2005)," "Brotherhood Of Justice (1986)" and "The Toxic Avenger (1984)." Actors ranging from Cuba Gooding Jr., Kevin Hart, and Sylvester Stallone. All absolutely FREE to watch! The more people that watch movies using services like Popcorn Flix, the better movie selections we'll eventually get. Their free service is available on both Roku, and on the web. Visit Popcorn Flix

Free Streaming: Tubi TV
It has been awhile since I've used Tubi TV. This is another great totally FREE movie stream. You can watch on your Roku/Chrome or on your computer. I'll be honest, you'll have to search a tiny bit more closely with Tubi TV when it comes to finding movies you want. They tend to have a lot of modern day, low, low low, budget horror films. The kinds of films that a first time movie producer would make (fresh out of school). The flip side of it is, they also have a lot of good movies such as "Tin Tin (2011)," "Setup (2011)," and old TV show classics like "Alf (1986)," and classic movies such as "Duel At Diablo (1966)."

Free Streaming: OVG

OVguide is another company offering FREE movies on Roku and other devices. A lot of the movies are not as good as what Crackle has, However, I think you'll definitely be able to find some movies you'd like to watch. Currently, they have movies like, "Elite Squad: the Enemy Within (2010)," "Hoodium (1997)," and "Sins Expiation (2012) (with Danny Glover)." The nice thing about Ovguide, is that a lot of their movies appear to be curated. Now, normally I don't like curated content, only because websites that are curated tend to be a bit chaotic, in terms of navigating their site. However, when it comes to their Roku setup, it's integrated quite nicely. A couple of those curated film comes from Hulu (usually those that are available for free). Visit OV Guide

Free Streaming: AMG TV

AMG TV offers FREE streaming of many classic movies on their website. It functions like a regular TV station with the commercials. Movies are NOT "on demand," meaning you can't choose what you want to see. The site has their own online TV guide, so you can see current and future programming and their time slots. The types of things shown are "Escape From Alcatraz (1979)," Starring Clint Eastwood, and also some recent TV shows such as "Leverage." Check out their online TV guide for listings. Visit AMG TV

Free Streaming: Snag Films

Snag Films is an absolutely FREE and legal video streaming service, and has content very close to what PBS (channel 13/21) has. Most of it's library contains, documentaries, and docudrama films. Find films on Hendrix, Ali, and MLK. You can also find stories on Cuban America, politics, classic B&W movies, and some educational LGBT films. The service is also available on Roku. Visit Snag Films

Free Streaming: Viewster

Viewster is a FREE streaming site that mostly does popular Asian movies, TV Shows, and Anime. However, they do have some American movies such as "Amnesiac," and "Inside Man." Plenty of horror movies, and old classics. Some LGBT movies as well. Unfortunately, many of the Asian content may not have subtitles (depending). Visit Viewster

Free Streaming: Film Rise

Like Snag Films, Film Rise has loads of documentaries and many other content, available FREE of charge. From movies, TV shows, to very old B&W classics. Also available for Roku. Totally legal, totally safe, and totally free with commercials! Find classic TV shows such as "The Heat Of The Night," and "Forensic Files." Find movies like "Tales Of Terror," with Vincent Price, and "Night Feeders." I recommend that you search for movies on your Roku box instead of browsing on their site. Most of the links seem to concentrate on selling movies through Amazon. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but if you only want to see free movies displayed, use your Roku box. Now, to be perfectly honest, most of these movies aren't my cup of tea. However, I posted this for people who still do love this kind of incredibly low budget and awful acting. BUT, some of the documentaries/TV shows are worth watching. Visit Film Rise

Semi Free: Google
GooglePlay is another service that's not at the top of my "best list," but it is another name that has been around for a long time. Although aesthetically speaking I don't care for GooglePlay's Android streaming app; the one thing where the app excels in, is that it allows you to listen to both your MP3 music, and your rental music! Most mobile apps don't do that, and I assume it's because of that good o'l licensing. Again, functionality wise, I think Rhapsody is 100 times better; but I would never tell someone never to try something. Go ahead and check them out.

Most mobile apps don't do that, and I assume it's because of that good o'l licensing. However, then again, most mobile streaming services are designed to be used as stand alone, such as Napster (Google was an MP3 player long before it got into the streaming business). Again, functionality wise, I think Napster is 100 times better; but I would never discourage anyone from ever trying a service; because it may be more suitable for your needs than mine. GooglePlay also offers totally FREE radio! You do not need a subscription service to use it; all you need is a Google account to start. So far, I think I like their music better than Pandora (only because they don't repeat music as much). Go ahead and check them out. Visit GooglePlay

Subscription: Napster
My preferred source of music streaming. One of the many reasons I recommend Rhapsody, is because they posses over 36+ million songs in their library, tons of features, and mobile, web, and desktop applications are all consistent with each other. Very easy to discover even more classic music with Rhapsody.

My preferred source of music streaming. The Napster service has came a long way; now it is international, and has integrated all of the 33 countries it services under one platform. One of the many reasons I recommend Napster, is because they posses over 40+ million songs in their library, untold international music, they promote lesser known artist as well as well known artists. Tons of features like, unlimited songs in playlists, unlimited radio skips, control variety of music in your radio stations, works with Shazam, ability to compare musical tastes with other users by percentage to help discover more music you like. They offer "Cloud Sync," an application that scans all your local music, and match them with the music in their database. Albums found will be placed in your Napster library, and iTunes playlists will be created as well. New features now include, adding custom gif covers to your playlists, OR upload your own covers! Also, sift through suggested music based off your unique playlist! Music quality up to 320kbps AAC, CD sound. Control radio stream quality separately, for those bad signal days while listening to the radio. Tools to easily share on social media, and discover users who like the same kinds of songs you like too! Napster even evaluates user playlists, and gives you a percentage number, as to how close your tastes are. Finally, mobile app, web app, and desktop applications are all consistent with each other. Very easy to discover even more classic music with Napster. Visit Napster

Subscription: Netflix
I recommend Netflix because they have 65+ million movie stream subscribers; and ships over 3,400+ discs are processed per hour, for the over 5.3 million DVD/Blu-Ray subscribers. Netflix has close to 100,000 movie titles and TV shows of just about every genre you can think of; titles that are not easily found anywhere else.

I recommend Netflix because they have 94+ million movie stream subscribers; and ships over 4,000+ discs are processed per hour, for the over 6 million DVD/Blu-Ray subscribers. Netflix has close to 200,000+ movie titles and TV shows of just about every genre you can think of; titles that are not easily found anywhere else. Memberships as low as $5 a month for discs, discs are delivered within 3 days. Streaming membership as low as $8 per month. Well worth the subscription. You'll never by another disc in a store again. Visit Netflix

Subscription: HULU
I recommend Hulu because they have thousands of movie titles for streaming. In my opinion, it is the best service for current and popular TV shows, such as "Empire," with the handsome Terrence Howard. However, I think Netflix has a larger selection of better movies.

I recommend Hulu because they have thousands of movie titles for streaming. In my opinion though, it is the best service for current and popular TV shows, such as "Empire," with the handsome Terrence Howard. However, I think Netflix has a larger selection of better movies. The the bulk of their movies are the same kind of movies you'd find in the $5 cage in the "close out" section of your favorite DVD store. That's not to say you can't find good movies every once in a while, but the reality is they are better known for their TV shows, and some documentaries. They have some good "Original Content" too. Because licensing is expensive, they usually don't have all seasons for a particular show. If you need to see earlier seasons of a show, you're going to wind up signing up for Netflix. Visit Hulu

Subscr/Retail: Amazon
Although I don't use AmazonPrime, I do think not only it is a good service, it is one of the most trusted & long standing names in the web business. Unfortunately, Amazon doesn't have as much music as Rhapsody, or even Spotify. However, if you are already a member of Amazon's Prime, You automatically have access to their music streaming as part of their bundled Prime package. If it comes free, why not try it? You should know that licenses fluctuate consistently. In other words, an album may be available this year, but not the next with Amazon. I know that's one of the major complaints with the movies, not sure if that's the same with the music feature.

Recently tried AmazonPrime video package, and let me tell you the video and sound is phenomenal! They don't have as many movies as Netflix, however, many of them are quality movies. It's not only a good service, it is one of the most trusted & long standing names in the web business. Unfortunately, Amazon doesn't have as much music as Napster, or even Spotify. Subscr/Retail: iTunes
I don't really use my desktop iTunes as much as I used to since I started streaming. But, I do use it to manage and transfer my MP3 to my Android. At the same time, many of you have read my pet-peeves concerning Apple music; and on of the latest pet-peeves I've discovered is that it looks like they're not offering any sample plays on their media widgets (obviously to promote their music streaming (unnecessarily extreme)). However, iTunes is still so very popular that it wouldn't make sense for me not to add Apple music to my legal streaming list. At the end of the day, iTunes really doesn't have anything that sets itself apart from any other streaming service out here, other than it's brand name. However, I will say that their iTunes radio delivers an excellent selection of music. iTunes is still offering 3 months free (I think). Just in case, iTunes is now available for Android. I don't remember if you can play MP3s though; I had no interest in getting the trial. But for all you Apple fans, go right ahead!

I don't really use my desktop iTunes as much as I used to since I started streaming. But, I do use it to manage and transfer my Purchased CD/MP3 to my Android. Apple's music is still so very popular (despite it's maddening quest to control music on it's service) that it wouldn't make sense for me not to add "Apple Music" to my legal streaming list. At the end of the day, Apple Music really doesn't have anything that sets itself apart from any other streaming service out here, other than it's brand name. However, I will say that their radio delivers an excellent selection of music (for now subscription only). Please don't mistaken Apple's radio playlists, for their curated bulls*** radio. You don't need Apple to gain access to those, you can easily find those around the net if you look hard enough (which are also legal by the way, and artists get credit for each IP address connected). Apple Music is still offering 3 months free (I think). Just in case, Apple Music is now available for Android. Visit Apple

CINEMA: NEWER MOVIES

Don’t Breathe (2016), IMDB, YouTube trailer. Starring, Stephen Lang, Jane Levy, Dylan Minnette (whom I ALWAYS mistaken him for one of the Jonas brothers (by the way, all of the Jonas brother grew up to be very handsome men IMHO). If you like thriller movies, this will NOT disappoint you in my humble opinion. You guys really need to Netflix this bitch and see it! Just about every major movie website has given this rave reviews! And that includes Rotten Tomatoes, so don’t just take it from me 😀 . Now, most of my blog fans who really follow me, know my feelings about very young actors; they’re usually the stereotypical bullshit, with the college students driving up to some house in a secluded location to “unwind.” They start having a bunch of sex, and the next thing you know some monster, vampire, alien whatever, comes out and slaughters or eats them all up. Yada yada, yada. Boy, did this movie shock the hell out of me! Totally blew my mind! Kind of got a little bit “Blair Witch” for me towards the middle of the movie. But, please trust me, it was totally worth my time watching!

So you have these 3 deadbeat teens, handsome Daniel Zovatto (although he had only a small role, he was very believable in this role), Jane Levy, Dylan Minnette. In a nutshell, these kids are hoodlums, and go around robbing people. Actually, I should say two of them, because I could tell right away that Dylan did not want to be involved. He really was just there for the because he liked Jane. So, unbeknown to him, Dylan learns that his love of his life is leaving for good, while in the midst of planing “the big hit.” They learn that an old blind guy has got a huge settlement as a result of a murder of his daughter and his injuries (and keeps ALL of the cash in the house). Now, I have to be honest, my first thought was, this is going to be a bullshit movie, how much good is this going to be?!?! I pictured a bunch of talking and negotiating. NOT!!! The guy who is played by Stephen Lang, is NO ordinary guy. Before I continue, I have to say that this old guy was ripped!!! Oh my goodness. He’s an old man in a young mans body.  He was just too pumped! Well, I guess he had to be in order to pull off this role.

Stephen had a surprise for their ass honey! Yes!!! The three thugs broke in to his house and all hell broke loose. I have to be honest though, by the end of the movie, I had so many mixed emotion about Stephen. I felt sorry for him, but on the other hand, by the end of the movie I’m thinking, HE was the bad guy. Stephen wasn’t just protecting himself, he was hunting the three down with the focus of trying to kill all of them. Homeboy locked the doors, bordered windows, and got busy. It wasn’t until further down the movie that I realized Stephen was also trying to hide a big secret. He was hiding someone in his basement. The person in that basement has a short part, but was one of the many important keys to this puzzle. Now, again, this had a lot of action, and damn realistic for a guy being blind. You can clearly tell that he was planning this moment, like he knew someone was going to break in!

Oh, did I mention that they also had to fight an attack dog, whom I call Cujo! I call him Cujo because he looked and acted just like him! Now, will all three survive and escape before Stephen kills them all? Will they discover that hidden person in the basement in time? Or more importantly, will they be to try and save that person? Now, you know I don’t like giving out spoilers unless I am forced to. So I’ll just stop right here, cause I’ve said enough. Rent this movie From Netflix, you will definitely enjoy it!! Incredible acting, and lots of suspense.

cover

I love to watch foreign movies. However, normally I don’t watch Spanish movies, only because the movies that are marketed to the United States, or English speaking countries, only play up to the stereo types (as if it is the only way it will sell). Maybe I’m looking in the wrong places? I mean, I have a wealth of resources, and yet the only Spanish movies I’m able to find most of, are the ones that can be boiled down to three categories; drug cartels, novelas (that contains a bunch of women slapping somebody or each other, as if that’s all Spanish women do all day? Yeah, that’s realistic 🙁 ), or a bunch of romance movies that don’t have strong captivating story lines. Searching for good Spanish movies is very difficult for me. If anyone knows of really good action Spanish movies, send me a direct twitter message. I did come a cross a movie called “Asmodexia (2014).” I’m not going to say it was a good movie “per say,” but it did have all the elements of a good classic horror movie made in 2014.

1

First off, I wouldn’t put this movie in the gore genre, but there were many scenes that was so gross, it was awesome! I just wish the acting was a little better. To be honest, I think the only two things that kept my attention, was being determined to understand what’s going on; and the other was just hoping to see the next big disgusting thing. Now, the movie isn’t “Hellraiser (1987)” disgusting, but it had the potential to be. There are a lot of things going on in this movie, I’ll try to condense my writing as small as possible.

2

So, this old guy  who is a preacher/exorcist is traveling around town casting out demons, as well as teaching and grooming his granddaughter to do the same thing to take his place. What I couldn’t help but to find interesting, was that throughout the movie, they never once took a bus or a car whilst on their travels. I don’t know if that was an over-site on the director’s part, or maybe it was to signify spiritual strength, I don’t know.  Now, turns out there is something very important about this girl. I can’t (or shouldn’t) say anything more about her, I’ll risk giving out a major spoiler. So I’ll stop right here. But I will say this, I was taken back on how androgynous she looks. I almost thought I would see something from “Sleep Away Camp (1983).” LOLOL Those who saw that movie know what I’m talking about.

3

The make up on this woman was pretty good. But I don’t know who idea it was to put that green coloring on her teeth, but that shit was a bad idea. That green candy looking mixture just made the overall makeup look fake, don’t you think? They probably ran out of fake blood, and had to compensate. LOLOL BUT. BUT. There was a scene where this demon possessed lady vomited on another woman’s face, it was so disgusting! Yuk!! So the young grand daughter came to exorcise the demon out of her, and was successful. Dead, but successful. LOLOL.

4

Again, there are some good scary moments in the movie, but I liked it not because  it was a “good movie,” I liked it because it’s different, and nothing else I’ve seen. I’m not going to lie, by the end of the movie, it left me saying to myself.. WTF???????? I was left feeling like I didn’t know whether the preacher or the girl was bad or good. Turns out the preacher/exorcist isn’t what he leads us to believe! Again, I am terribly sorry, but unfortunately, it was too hard writing about this movie without giving up major spoilers. But what I can say, is that it involves a resurrection. This movie alludes to a part 2, however, it is nowhere to be found (at least I can’t find it in the U.S.).  All I can say is, see the movie for the foreign special effects, and the occasional weird soft gore. Considering all the novela like movies all over streaming, this is a change of pace. Watch on Netflix.

I am happy to announce that Ip Man 3 (2015) is streaming on Netflix with English audio! This must be exclusive to Netflix, because as far as I know, the Blu-Ray doesn’t have it (only English subs). As I’ve said before, I love All the Ip Man(s) in the Ip Man trilogies.  This latest Ip Man played by yet again, the talented Donnie Yen, was no exception. There were about 3 story lines in this movie that were kind of hard to keep up. Lots and lots of action and special effects as always. The only thing is, I don’t know how much of this was the real Ip Man, and how much of it was non-fiction. There are so many different writings and opinions, I just don’t know.

1

Kwok-Kwan Chan, plays Bruce Lee in the movie. Unfortunately, he had an extremely small role in the movie, which makes me think there’s a possibility of an Ip Man 4. I was taken back on not just how much he looks like him, but how much he got Bruce Lee’s mannerisms to a tee! If I didn’t know any body, I would have said this must be his young son. He gave us a little taste of what he can do with his martial arts, and it looks really good. I really do hope that my assumptions are true, that there will be an Ip Man 4; because in the movie, Donnie does state that he wants to teach him Kwok eventually. If that’s the case, it could be a “Ip Man 4 and Bruce Lee” movie. I know Kwok will tear up some a**.

4b

Now, regardless whether Tyson was playing in this movie or not, I was going to see it anyway. But I gotta tell you, he did much better than I expected, yet at the same time, it was extremely weird to watch them fight. It was like a showdown between boxing vs. Karate. Despite the weirdness of it all, it was quite interesting. It looks realistic looking. Usually in most martial arts movies, it’s  usually the American style fighter that gets their ass beat, but Tyson held his own. Tyson plays a big mafia boss, that’s trying to take over the city, bullying people to sell off their business, and the police is powerless to stop it. It’s up to Donne to make the town safe again.

3

While Donnie is trying to fight for law and order, you have another guy, Jin Zhang, who plays both sides of bad and good (for the purpose of trying to gain some kind of recognition). He tries to get in to Donnie’s  head to learn his weaknesses, ultimately so he can prove to be the true master fighter. His goal is to eventually build his own martial arts school, offering skills that is supposed to be superior to Donnie (Ip Man). When Tyson sends a bunch of thugs to kidnap both Ip Man and Jin’s son’s his attitude changes and fights on Ip Man’s side. But unfortunately, it didn’t get rid of the need for Jin to prove that he was the greatest fighter over Donnie, including publicly challenge him to a fight.

Through all of crap Ip Man is going through, he also had to deal with finding out his wife is dying of cancer. How the hell Ip Man will get through all of this? Ip Man gave up so much to help others, but there was no one to really help him. Will Ip Man be able to safe the day? Will Ip Man wind up killing Jin because of his unquenchable thirst to prove he is the best? I highly recommend that you check this movie out. And by the way, the English translation is pretty darn good. Watch it on Netflix.

So, scrapped up enough money to see X-Men APOCALYPSE (2016) in 3D. As always, as a huge fan of X-Men, I think this 2 and a half hour movie was AWESOME!! However, this time, the 3 dimensional effects wasn’t as strong as I expected. Don’t get me wrong, the special effects were fantastic! But as much as I love X-Men, I recommend that fans just see the 2D version, you’ll save some money, and enjoy it just as much. I should warn you that if you haven’t seen the movie yet, and you’re a die-hard comic book fan as well, a LOT of things you’ll see will annoy you. Nothing will make sense to you, if you’re expecting the story line to follow the comic books. You’ll have to watch the movie with a very open mind, it’s the only way you’ll really enjoy it without being annoyed.

You know, one of the many things that make me a fan of X-Men, are the global characters. It would have been nice to have a little more Latino representation in the movie (I’m not one to get on the “race” bandwagon when it comes to movies, I’m just saying). Speaking of which, for those of us that have seen the movie, have you noticed how much Latina Olivia Munn (who plays Psylocke) looks? She’s gorgeous in the movie though. Unfortunately, she did not have a big part in the movie; but the little she did, was a powerful performance.

So, in essence Apocalypse is another very powerful mutant, who sees himself as a god. Apocalypse has been re-awakened and is on a mission to cleanse the world by destroying everything in it.  Any mutant left alive will help rebuild earth. Although the movie had loads of action, this movie also focused a lot on the psyche of each character; their fears of knowing that the world will end not knowing exactly how to stop it, or if they will even be successful doing it. Apocalypse was a special kind of mutant that no other mutant in the movie’s time frame has ever encountered. Xavier’s kids were still students; but once they realized that Apocalypse has the ability to steal a mutant’s powers; at that moment they became the X-Men. You see, the one thing that would technically put Apocalypse in “god” status, is to steal Xavier’s powers of mind control.

What made it even worse, we all know how powerful of a mutant Magneto is. After Magneto’s wife and daughter was murdered at the same time in front of him, Apocalypse used this and the fact that his parent’s were also taken away as a child; to get him to join him in the pursuit of destroying the world. That’s a lot of rage Magneto will unleash. It’s hard to defeat Magneto as it is, how the hell our heroes can fight both the master of magnetism and a thousand+ year old mutant?

I don’t want to say too much more, but I will say that there was a surprise appearance of a mutant that helped rescue a couple of our heroes (indirectly). I had the impression that this was the last installment; but after watching it, it is very obvious their going to at least branch off in to different segments for each hero. I’m likely to believe that the rumors of Storm, Angel, and Cyclopes getting their own movies, just may be true. Let me also just say, something happens with Jean that will BLOW YOUR MIND! Awesome special effects! Please don’t see the bootleg, spend the extra money to see it in a theater, it’s the only way to get the full effect. Or wait for it on Netflix. Again, it’s not exact to the comic books, but watching it happen was freak’n’ awesome! JMHO.

You know, for action filled Sci-Fi movies like this, I usually wait for the 3D version. However, there doesn’t appear to be any (be it streaming or disc), and I’m not sure why? This is a huge franchise so I don’t think it’s an issue of funds. I’m wondering it could be they’re looking in to how they would package the various “collector blu-rays” for the various types of movie fans. Well, regardless if you’re a 3D fan, or 2D, or the fan that wants all of the behind the scenes blu-ray, or the fan that wants some kind of memorabilia with that blu-ray, I knew that it would be a long time I would see that disc (just because of the sheer fandom of it all). Never the less, I thoroughly enjoyed Star Wars, and paid a lot less on streaming, for what they would have charged for a physical disc. Special effects was out of this world (pardon the pun), and the sound effects were also amazing. I was very please that (with the exception of a few) almost all the original actors came back to do this movie.

rr

John Boyega had a huge role in this movie, a long side phenomenal actors such as Harrison Ford. Well the story goes, John was one of the very many that were captured as children and trained to be a killer. However, he still had some heart left in him. When a friend was literally killed in front of his eyes while in battle, he brakes down and decides he does not want to be a storm trooper any longer, and starts thinking of a plan to escape Darth Vader’s successor, played by Adam Driver. He helps a prisoner escape, who happens to also be a pilot, together the managed to get away.

ee

Another phenomenal lead actor is Daisy Ridley, who really kicks ass in this movie. Although I loved the movie, I haven’t followed the franchise the way real fans have, so there were a lot of things that confused me to be honest. There were certain questions that came of for me after the fact. Like, why do they say “may the force be with you?” When it’s quite obvious to me that the “force is already in them.”  Is the force inherited through a genetic bloodline? Or is it given to those who take some kind of oath of the Jedi? I’ll guess I’ll have to talk to a diehard fan to find these questions out. However, as someone who didn’t follow every trilogy, I did enjoy the movie very much. You would not be so confused that you can’t get the jest of it.

Fast forward, Harrison Ford, Chewbacca, Daisy Ridley, and John Boyega all get together to stop Adam Driver from blowing up Harrison’s ship and crew (as well as other planets) using a very dangerous weapon. Lots and lots of action and special effects. I don’t think any Star Wars fan would be too disappointed. Again, everyone did wonderful job, even the robot had a comedic personality that worked very well in the movie. Well, I think I’ve given enough info, anymore I’d be giving spoilers. The movie is available in all major movie streaming services. Again, just want to remind you to not purchase from Youtube/Google yet, because as far as I know, they still don’t offer DD5.1 minimum. So, get it from Amazon, Vudu, or just rent the video from Netflix, it will be available starting tomorrow I think (just know that there may be a long wait for it).

San

This movie should not be confused with San Andreas Earthquake (2015) (which I have not seen yet). Much to my surprise, the movie was better than I thought. Although there was a lot of action, the 3D was somewhat disappointing. With all the action that was in this movie, I expected expected the 3D to be a little more dramatic. By the way, the I should mention that the retail 3D version is actually a conversion. The entire movie was not shot in 3D (hence, explains my disappointment) 🙁 . The special effects alone in the movie were believable. The CGI was pretty well done, and I did not detect any fake scenes (that I can remember). However, don’t spend extra money to purchase the 3D blu-ray version, your better off watching the standard 2D version on stream (or wait until it the 3D version comes available on cable).  In essence, The Rock, is an air rescue guy, who’s job is to save as many people as he can during a deadly earthquake. This earthquake is so bad that it hits over 9 points on the richter scale! So basically the whole of California and then some is at risk of being destroyed. Unfortunately, as with all movies like this; it is very typical that no one believes the weather scientist/doctor played by Paul Giamatti. While The Rock is doing his best to stay alive, keep his ex-wife (or separated) alive, and trying to save his second daughter; we also learn that he was riddled with guilt, because of an accidental death of his first daughter. Having that regret, he risks all manor of danger trying to save his second daughter.  Ioan Gruffudd also had a very small part in this movie. I hated his character, because he did something really messed up, but I can’t white about it because it would be a major spoiler. Check out the movie; like I said the special effects where pretty good; lots of action; just don’t waste money on the 3D. The 2D version of San Andreas (2015) is available on Amazon, but it’s not worth $20. Wait a little longer until the movie studio offers a license for rental.

Dracula

It has been a really long time since I’ve enjoyed a really good vampire movie. You know, one thing that I think is sometimes bad in the film industry, when one film becomes a hit, they try to repeat the same “formula.” I can understand that as a business; however, as a movie fan it can get boring quite quickly if everyone is doing the same thing. I think that was what turned me off from seeing another vampire movie for a while. But, “Dracula Untold (2014) was such a good movie, I had to Netflix it again. I cannot recall any vampire movie that I actually wanted to see again (except for the original Fright Night (1985)). The very handsome Luke Evens, best known for “Lord Of The Rings” and Immortals,” did a fantastic job in this movie. The special effects were spot on, the colors were brilliant, there are very few bad things I can say about this movie. The story line has completely changed from what we’ve traditionally known about Dracula; and I think that’s part of the reason what made this movie so great. Removing at least some of the classic traditions of Dracula, also removed some of his limitations as Dracula as well. Dracula is still a monster in this movie, but we also got to see him be a loving husband, and a loving father. Now, that is something unheard of in vampire-ism. Lots of action from beginning to end. In essence, the movie is about a king witnessing untold amounts of his people being ferociously murdered; and makes a deal with the devil to give him supernatural ability to take vengeance; and to protect both the remainder of his people and family.

term2

Recently, I finally got a chance to watch the last installment of the classic “Terminator.” “Terminator Genisys (2015)” was completely awesome in my opinion. The special effects were incredible! At first, when I saw his “moving image” cut and pasted on to the new Genisus movie, I was turned off by it. As someone who often pays attention to detail, I could immediately see the difference in quality between the cutout of the 1984 Arnold, inside the 2015 version of the movie. However, I am happy that I gave this movie a chance, because I thoroughly enjoyed the movie. The other thing I was concerned about, I wasn’t sure how well Arnold would play a robot at his age. I was really worried about seeing tons of fake looking CGI. But, in my opinion, Arnold delivered with lots and lots of action and suspense. The movie stars,  Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jason Clarke, Emilia Clarke, and Jai Courtney. I have to say that, I was incredibly taken back as to just how much Jai Courtney, looks almost exactly like Lee Majors (you may not immediately see in the photograph, but when you see him in Terminator, you’ll notice). There is a lot of things going on in this movie, and unfortunately, you’ll really have to pay attention in order to understand the movie; because not only does it deal with a number of time travels, the movie also talks about a merge of memories and important stories not explained from the first Terminator. There were only two things that somewhat annoyed me in the movie. First, their time travel machine was very reminiscent of the TV show “Stargate.” Second, the main actors seemed to stay naked through the movie LOL. In order for our heroes to time travel, they can’t have any clothing on, because something happens where the person disintegrates or something. I don’t want to give any spoilers, and I also don’t want to complicate this review trying to explain the many elements of the movie. So, I’ll some it up this way; our heroes go back in time to actually stop dooms day from happening. However, none of them suspected that someone very close to them, is responsible for trying to destroy the planet.
