CINEMA: NEWER TV SHOWS

As I’ve expected guys, this show is worth seeing. Although the first season is only 8 episodes long, it was worth watching every single episode. I was so concerned that they would continue to “drag out,” their boring character flaws in our heroes. However, after completely watching The Defenders, I realized that I found a much greater appreciation for those flaws now. What changed my mind? Well, seeing all of them together I realized there was a strong message. The show showed something deep that is rarely seen in “big budget superhero movies (if any at all),” which is a human side. Now, don’t get me wrong, I think the last couple X-Men movies have done this well, but, with The Defenders, they weren’t just bigger than life “superheroes,” they were the average person who you can just pass by walking in the street and say hello. You know what I mean? For instance, Power Man is definitely the “big brother (pardon the pun)” of the four. Danny is that impatience 21 year old who thinks that he can solve all his problems by destroying things with his fist. Jessica the typical tomboy (and a drunk) who will dare any man to say she can’t do something. Then you got the Dare Devil, aka Mathew, although he’s a skilled fighter as a blind man, he was still forced to trust 3 total strangers convincing him to help to them take down the criminal organization trying to destroy New York City. When you think about it, their characters sort of represents the mixture of people we have here in NYC. Although the show is AWESOME like I said, I really do recommend that (if you haven’t already) go back and watch the 4 heroes shows separate, before you watch The Defenders. I think it would make more of an impact, if you understand their backstory. So you’ll need to watch Jessica Jones, Dare Devil, Power Man, and Iron Fist.

There is much too much stories to tell, so I’ll try to only discuss the most major points of the  show. So, the evil organization is called “The Hand.” Long story short, as I suspected, they’re some kind of ancient monks (which includes Sigourney Weaver) who have managed to live thousands of years. However, they were able to do so through some kind of substance, that was unfortunately buried deep in the earth. The only person that can help them get access to that was “The Iron Fist,” aka Danny Rand. Without this substance, they will die. This is the core story of this season; however, in between that, there is a web of deception, lies, shocking surprises, and “what the fuck” moments, that are all good! Actually there’s one more major thing I should mention. They had the power to bring people back from the dead. They brought back an old crime fighter named Electra. Although she was playing the villain (she was programed), she kicked ass in this show!! Problem? That was Dare Devil’s old girlfriend! So of course, he has feelings for her, and felt he can get through to her, and damn near got everybody killed.

I’m not sure why, when it comes to these superhero movies/TV shows, that it almost seems mandatory that there has to be a “girlfriend,” not even a wife, a “girlfriend.” Why is this a problem? Because they almost always windup being a downfall, or a weakness in having one. You know what I mean? For instance, if Electra was his wife, he probably would have got her help or something, or locked her away until “she got well.” But girlfriends are different, they windup getting killed, or someone else killed. That’s just how I see it. Finally before I close; I’d like to say that although Jessica’s show aggravated the hell out of me, she didn’t disappoint me in The Defenders. She wasn’t a skilled fighter, but she kicked enough butt that I was totally satisfied she finally kicked some ass; ’cause on her series she didn’t do shit to be honest. I was soooooo happy to see some action from her finally.

Hi guys, I finally finished watching season one of the Netflix original “Iron Fist (2017).” Let me first say that I have mixed feeling about this show. Although IMDB users rated it at 7.0, and RT gave it a 77% rating; I think had it not been for the special effects, I probably would not have bothered to watch it. Now, it’s not that their acting was bad or anything, however, I do think that their were too man story lines in this series that where dragged out for too long. Not only that, the Danny Rand character, played by Finn Jones, was far too impressionable, hot tempered and appears to always be indecisive, having been raised by monks. Then again, maybe this is because he was still a child when the monks found him, so technically, he had no contact with the outside world until he was an adult and left his sanctuary.

Now, there is just too many things going on in the show to explain in one post, so I’ll just give you the quickest run down possible. Danny Rand and his very rich mother and father were on a private jet. The jet malfunctioned and eventually crashed. Danny was the only one that survived the crash. Monks found him, took care of him, and taught him the ways of the monks. Now, I guess through “spiritual guidance” or whatever, Danny became “the chosen one,” and was bestowed the gift of “The Iron Fist,” which I guess makes his glowing right fist indestructible. I find it rather odd, to have an “Iron Fist,” yet the rest of his body is vulnerable. Hmmmm. Fast forward, upon the monks displeasure, Danny decides to go to NYC to find answers. He discovers in essence, his father’s friend, Harold Meachum, played by David Wenham, stole his father’s company right from under his nose, and the father’s friend was actually responsible for his death. There’s also another twist. There is an organization that appears to be mafia like in nature, called “The Hand,” (a woman by the name of Madame Gao, played by Wai Ching Ho (above)  seemed to be the head honcho, now I’m not sure) played a huge part in it. They wanted to use “Rand Industries,” to transport drugs. “The Hand” has given Harold some special kind of drug that gave him vampire like status. In other words, he couldn’t die. Well, so he thought. However, the side effect of the drug was, each time he came back to life, he became more violent and insane each time.

Danny spent so much of his time trying to prove who he was, and that he’s the sole rightful heir to the company. He eventually find friends to help him fight the corrupt “Hand” and prove his identity. Now, although I really love the action, and some real cool special effects, this reminds me a lot of watching Jessica Jones in a way, were this guy can’t control his emotions. He was raised by monks, no way should he be that out of control! And what make it worse, of course you know they had to make him fall in love with a woman that eventually betrayed him; and happened to be involved in the whole Hand business. The other thing is that, he does get a lot of visions, too much for him to handle; and sometimes I really wonder if his “Iron Fist” and the Hand are connected some how. I’ve already started watching the first episode of the “Defenders.” So far, so good. I do feel that the “Defenders,” may actually be a continuation to “Iron Fist.” I feel this because Alexandra, played by Sigourney Weaver, is sick with some form of cancer, and will use her money to gain access to a powerful drug to save her life. It may be the same drug that Harold was given. And if my hunch is right, the city will see an evil like none they’ve seen before. By the way, the first episode ended with earthquakes. Yikes!!!!

So, “The Defenders” are almost here. A Netflix rep has confirmed for me that it will be out in the next couple of months. In my opinion this is huge, really huge. Let me tell you why I think so. As much as Amazon raves about their “Prime’s original content,” and perhaps both, Hulu and even Crackle to some extent, who also boasts about their “original content,” none of them pull in box office stars they way Netflix does. I was shocked to discover that Sigourney Weaver will appear on the first season of “The Defenders.” Guys, the trailers look REALLY good. It’s action packed! It also feels like they’re doing the “Flash” thing, were you have all these spin-offs like DC Legends, Arrow, etc. I really do hate that, because sometimes there are scenes that you may not fully understand, unless you’ve been watching the other shows. However, the Netflix rep said it shouldn’t be like that for “The Defenders.” But in reality, I’m sure he doesn’t know either; he’s going to be finding out things in the same way all of us are.

So, I interpret “The Defenders,” as a getto street version of “The Justice League.” Don’t get offended by that, cause if you’ve watched Luke Cage and Jessica Jones series, you’d understand exactly what I’m talking about. It’s within context, trust me. Now, they’re bringing in the gorgeous Mike Colter who plays Luke Cage, aka Power Man, Finn Jones who plays Danny Rand, aka Iron Fist, Charlie Cox as Mathew Murdock, aka Daredevil, and Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones, aka Jewel, also been known as “Power Woman,” probably because of her relationship with Luke Cage (obviously). I have to be honest, I was not happy to see Jessica back, because I feel they made her character to lame and emotionally vulnerable. I’m hoping that since she is surrounded with action superheros, that she’ll finally get herself together and kick some evil butt!!

Before I close this article, I’ve made note of something I find interesting. I’ve noticed that they never address the characters as their aliases. However, Danny Rand in a round about way called himself the Iron First. Maybe this is because it appears this is the beginning stage of their superhero lives? But I remember in Luke Cage’s series, they gave us a glimpse of his past, showing his Power Man costume (well, the metal headband at least). I’m really confused! I’m also confused because at the end of Luke’s first season, they’ve showed a boxing establishment in such away, I’ve made a logical assumption that this is how Luke Cage and Iron First are going meet. But what would a master fighter like Iron Fist be involved in boxing? I don’t know, but that looked like a huge clue to something, and I have no idea what it is! I’m eagerly awaiting on the first new season of Netflix’s “The Defenders.” If you want to take a peak, here is are a couple of trailers. Trailer one, and Trailer 2.

power

I always hoped and dreamed that they would decide to do a comic book movie of Power Man. Although they didn’t make a movie (that I know of), they did create a TV show exclusively on Netflix, which was close enough in my book! Actually, technically Power Man is a spin off of Jessica Jones (which I hated). In the beginning, Jessica Jones started off very interesting and exciting, but after about episode 5 it started to go down hill. There was a point where it got so boring that I actually skipped a couple of episodes, just so that I can spare myself the agony. However, I hoped that Colter would have his own show, cause honestly I thought he was a better actor than Krysten Ritter. Power Man aka Luke Cage is played by Mike Colter, the finest piece of man chocolate I’ve seen in a long time! Ain’t that right girls? LOLOL. You know, only judging by the comic books, I really thought they would have had someone like Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson to play the part of Power Man. But, that’s O.K., cause I’m certainly not disappointed with Colter! 😀 I’m definitely going to watch this entire show through to the end. LOLOL

1

Now, I’m fuzzy on Luke Cage’s origin and how he actually became Power Man; but judging from the first episode, whatever they did to Wolverine, they did something similar to Luke. So basically they’ve done some crazy experiments on him, and made his body indestructible. I’m not sure if Luke has an adamantium skull and bones like Logan, but as far as I know, he can’t be hurt or killed. Luke tries to stay low key, as he hides from the law. I didn’t realize until after the fact that, the show appears very stereotypical. In other words, if Power Man could live anywhere he would be needed, It would be in a hood. But, putting my bias aside, the story line does seem to work (if it were not for Colter’s acting ability).

2

Ron Cephas Jones, plays a powerful drug lord who goes on a rampage when he learns that a transaction deal was sabotaged, via inside job. The party involved tried to shoot and kill one of Jones people, so that there would be no witnesses. But that person managed to call and let Jones’ people know who one of them was before he died. Jones went ape-shit. Unfortunately, while Luke is struggling trying to live is life quietly between two jobs (drama free), one of his jobs happens to be working in a club that Jones has made his central headquarters it looks like.

3

I’ll end the article by saying, I thoroughly enjoyed the first episode so far. Lots of action on the first episode, I feel confident I will not be bored with this show (unless they bring Jessica Jones in the mix, I sure hope not). The special effects was awesome! There was a scene were a gang member tried to punch Luke in the face, and as you can see, he literally brakes his wrist! Awesome, awesome, awesome!! Again, I’ve only watched episode one, and so far, my interpretation of the character Luke, is that he’s very much aware of his remarkable power, and trying everything he can to be mindful not to kill anyone with his massive strength. But from what he’s had to deal with in the first episode, I think he may wind up killing a lot of people. Especially when it comes to Ron, that dude is not going down easily. This just maybe before he becomes “The Power Man.” You know, I remember they showed a glimpse of a costume for Jessica in the “Jessica Jones” TV series; I’m wondering now if Luke will have a costume? Then again maybe not, I don’t get the feeling Luke’s character would want one. You get a sense that he may think he is a bit of a freak, and just wants to be normal. What would make this show even more exciting? I would really freak out if they introduce Iron Fist in the show. Just watched an E.T. video, and they confirmed that all of Power Man’s partners are coming back, which includes Daredevil, Iron First, and unfortunately Jessica Jones. Now THAT would be cool! Click here for Luke Cage.

Hi guys, today I watched a free premiere episode of “Preacher” produced by AMC. At first, it seemed like it would be a typical boring horror comedy, you know, equivalent to something like one of those Sy-Fy original movies. Yet, the comedy was very subtle, you kind of don’t know certain things were supposed to be jokes, until you think about it way after it happened… LOL However, I did give it a chance, since the trailers I’ve seen looked so good. I’m glad I did, because the ending of this episode was shocking as shit! My Jaw dropped, but of course, I’m not going to spoil it for you guys, so I’m not going to say anything about it. 😀

2

The TV show stars handsome, Dominic Cooper, who plays the preacher. From the trailers that I’ve seen, I had the assumption that this TV show was about the supernatural. However, I realize that it looks like it could actually be a Sci-Fi alien thriller. It’s too early to tell, but that was my perception. The movie starts off with some kind of unidentified object crashing down to earth. Some kind of energy was released after the object crashed, found it’s way to a preacher in Africa, while preaching to his congregation. The force of the energy was so strong it momentarily killed him, he then came back alive. Everyone in the church thought it was a miracle! But then seconds after praising a miracle, the energy inside the preacher caused his body to explode. Everyone ran out of the church scared and screaming. After many years later Dominic takes over a church (that looks eerily similar to the first church where the first preacher was killed), and tries to continue to keep the towns faith.

3

He helps everyone with pretty severe situations. He helps people like Ian Colletti, who I’m not sure if he suffers from a severe birth defect, or if this was an accident. It’s funny, when I first saw him, I immediately said to myself, “hey, he could be Conan O’Brian’s Son!” LOL. Not only is Ian dealing with a serious facial defect, he is also dealing with built up guilt for things he’s done in the past, and needs the preacher to help him deal.

6

Of course there are kick ass rebels on the show like Ruth Negga. She is no joke, I get the impression she is some kind of bounty hunter. There is some kind of relationship between her and the preacher, but I”m not sure what it is yet exactly. The story line alluded to the fact that they had a past business relationship, and she’s desperately trying to convince him to go back to what they were doing. However, because preacher has made a promise not to go back to being violent, he consistently declines her offer. Much of this has to do with the murder of his father. However, that all changed when that same energy that killed the first preacher, entered Dominic. Not only has he changed from being the nice preacher, he also now has the ability to control peoples minds (literally). So, the show took a little bit to pick-up the pace, but I think this will be a show worth watching. Keep in mind that this show has many story lines, so you’ll really have to sit and watch it. The show shows you strange things happening all over the world, you won’t understand what’s going on, if you’re not stuck to the TV unfortunately. I’m not sure how all of these different stories relate to each other yet. If you want to watch a free episode, just create a free VUDU account here. Free version is in Standard Definition, but it has surround sound.

HeroesReborn

I finally got the chance to catch up on all my Heroes episodes. Unfortunately, I can’t give you a simple and quick synopsis from episodes 1-10, because there are just way too many story lines in one show. I have to warn you that if you start watching Heroes, you actually need to dedicate some time to watch it, because you will miss some vital clues if you walk away from the television set. Also be forewarned that the show does a lot of character flashbacks, which makes it really confusing if you’re not paying attention (it did feel like a soap opera at times). However, I will say for me, it was well worth watching. The show is finally starting to pick up, now that I think I understand where the show is going so far. This show is getting very exciting. I’m also happy that many of the old characters from the original Heroes came back. You know, originally I really thought that Jack Coleman was going to be the ultimate “Hero,” but now that I am on episode 10, I now think that the absolutely gorgeous Ryan Guzman may be the “hero.” Having seen all the episodes and reflecting both on Jack and Ryan, I find it very interesting that they are fighting for the lives of “EVOs,” Yet they are both human with no abilities, and risking their own lives. Don’t get me wrong, there are other kick ass characters in the show, but there is so much focus on these two, that I’m starting to wonder the possibility if THEY are EVOs and don’t even know it? I mean, Jack’s daughter from the original show, played by Hayden Panettiere, as Claire Bennet had the ability to regenerate. I don’t even recall if they discussed where Claire got her abilities from, was it Jack or her mother? I would really be shocked if they didn’t write them becoming EVOs in the show. Then again, my imagination could be over reacting. But you gotta admit, that would be freakin’ cool! UPDATE: I did a little research, and turns out that Claire is Jack’s adopted daughter. Hmmmmmm. Still doesn’t mean he can’t be an EVO though…. LOL. Something to think about; he does shoot with accuracy, far beyond just being an “expert.” Let’s remember Jack did not start off as a James Bond type character. So much is happening on the show, ANYTHING could happen. I’m excited to see what they have coming up next for the fans.

Well, Rya Kihlstedt is this crazy rich scientist bitch from hell, who reminds me a lot of the guy that played William Stryker for X-Men. She reminds me of him because both are/were on this f**ked up mission to destroy all people born with special abilities. But, what she is doing is not just trying to kill all the EVOs, she is wiping out basically all of mind kind as well. There is another main character Eve Harlow who in my mind reminds me soooo much of Resident Evil’s Michelle Rodriguez; once you start watching the show you’ll immediately understand what I’m talking about (down to the way she looks at the camera, and mannerisms). Eve kicks ass a little bit too. Anyway, like I said, there’s too much going on in the show to break everything down; you’ll just have to take my word for it. Granted, there is still a lot more to see, I really feel we won’t be disappointed this time around. Great writers, and great special effects. If you need to watch the original Heroes (seasons 1-4), you can watch them on Netflix. For the current season of HEROES: REBORN, you can watch it now on HULU.

Heroes

Today I watched the long awaited reboot of “HEROES: Reborn” on Hulu. Although I was very excited from the moment I discovered that they where making a new Heroes; I had a lot of concerns. I was very hesitant in terms of wanting to watch this pilot, because the original series was such a disappointment. However, it wasn’t because it wasn’t exciting, neither was it because there weren’t any good actors. It was because the last season (I believe it was season four) ended real shitty! But it had to with good reason. Many of you may, or may not remember. But, the problem was several years ago; there was a huge writer’s strike that put almost every hot TV show at that time to a screeching halt! Even the Soap Operas were effected at the time. In fact, many, many Soap Opera shows were cancelled because of it. Millions of dollars were lost as a result of this strike. Unfortunately, one of the shows that were also effected was Heroes. It was obvious that because the writer’s strike happened mid season, they had no other choice but to quickly end the show. Although I understood studio’s situation, but they could have tried to figure out a much better ending than that. But then again, they probably had no time to have a real discussion as to how the show would actually end. In fact, they probably wasn’t even sure if they would even have the same writers come back. But, because I really like the theme and story line of the show, I decided to give it another try, and hope that I am not wasting my time. It looks like they’re bringing back most, if not all of the old cast back. In many ways, there are elements of X-men in this show; “a war is coming,” or “something big is brewing and we must prepare for it!” However, what annoys me about Heroes is that it looks like they are repeating again in this reboot, what they did in the original series, is that it’s taking them too long to show the viewers what this “big thing is!” I’ve watched almost two hours of this show, I think I should have gotten a better clue as to what they will be fighting against (or help us work our imagination). I really like Jack Coleman as an actor, but I don’t like the type of character the writers has given him as a lead actor. I’m always left feeling like he’s always holding back. We know he is a huge part of the clue (as to what’s supposed to happen), but the writers has him playing the stupid clumsy nerd, instead of the kick ass “let’s see what the fuck is going on so I can help save the world actor.” I think the story dragged on a little bit longer than it needed too. I’m hoping the writers are just trying to help us get a feel for what the other characters’ lives are. Quite honestly, the best actress that made that pilot interesting to watch was Kiki Sukezane. Out of all of them, she’s was the only character that had some balls; actually kicked some ass with some martial arts. She was doing what I expected Masi Oka to be doing on season 4 of the original Heroes. I forgot what Masi Oka’s powers were; I think he has the ability to stop time, and travel through it. She actually had a sward that looks like the one he had in the original Heroes. I’m thinking, either she is the reincarnation of himself; or the father she was trying to save was actually him. After watching Kiki kick some ass, it got me interested. But, again, like I’ve said, the story line appears to move too slow. I’ll give it the benefit of the doubt though, and continue to watch it. Hopefully I will not be disappointed. 🙂
